1. What is Healthchoice?
Healthchoice is an IT system (tool) designed to allow practitioners, practice groups and funders to enhance the availability, quality and exchange of information. This will improve patient care. The primary goal being accessible information to enhance decision making and the choice of treatment.
2. How do I register?
Simply register your details on the website www.healthchoice.co.za or contact us on info@healthchoice.co.za. It is important to register your practice (business entity) first. Thereafter the registration of practitioners / assistants functionality is enabled.
3. Who oversees Healthchoice?
Healthchoice is overseen by a company called Lifechoice. Lifechoice is an independent company (not linked to any medical scheme, scheme administrator, hospital groups or other supplier of medical service).
Lifechoice employs a range of clinical experts, data scientists, statistical experts and software developers to manage the Healthchoice tool.
4. How is confidentiality protected?
Our belief is that protecting clinical information is sacrosanct. Our approach to protecting information is as follows:
5. Why do I need my e-mail address to log in?
Healthchoice is designed to know exactly who accesses the system, accesses information on the system and captures information on the system. This level of access control is critical to protecting patient information, information belonging to participating businesses, information related to a partner initiative and funder information. This is why you need a unique email to register. Your password and password reset functionality are linked to your email address.
6. Why does my registration need to be linked to a practice?
When you access the Healthchoice tool, you will be doing so within the authority of a participating business. The participating business will grant you the authority to access the system and information linked to the business. The participating business will also be able to remove this authority, should you no longer be linked to the business.
7. Who else can access information?
Access to information on the Healthchoice tool is limited to the practice (business) that loaded the information (i.e. practitioners linked to the practice). Information captured that is linked to a Healthchoice initiative (eg. hip surgery registry) will be accessible to the initiative partner in an anonymized fashion. Where a funder has commissioned the collection of information, this information will be shared with the funder but only to the extent permitted by the practice (business) consent and patient consent.
In short, all access and sharing must be in line with patient consent and the practice (business) authority.
8. Can I share my password?
No. All users need to register with a unique password. This is important to ensure protection of personal information. Your unique password ensures that you can see information that you are permitted to see.
9. What is an example of Healthchoice initiative?
Forward thinking practitioners, practitioner groups, representative societies and funders recognise the importance of collecting structured information for the purposes of improving care. Normally an initiative will take the form of a registry to collect data for analysis and research. The Healthchoice tool is designed to assist partners with project oversight, design, development, deployment and management of a data registry or data collection project.
10. Who should I contact if I am interested in running a registry and or setting up a data project?
Should you be interested in setting up a registry or running a Healthchoice initiative please contact us by email info@healthchoice.co.za or telephonically 0861 000 350.
